The music video for the song "Pretty fly for a white guy" by The Offspring demonstrates various representations of ethnicity. Firstly, the video portrays a Caucasian character as a protagonist who comes across as a nonsensical man with a lack of street smarts at a laughable level. He wears loose, baggy sports clothing with flashy jewellery and is seen with a flashy sports car. This displays a successful lifestyle made up of wealth.
Later in the video there is an African American male wearing clothing similar to that of the Caucasian protagonist of the video. When the pair meet the facial expression of the African American male is very serious as he carries himself with a heavy chain and an angry demeanour. He reacts to the Caucasian's style in a negative way.
This gives a representation of toughness and a no-nonsense attitude to the African American race.
The representation of Hispanics in the video has a big contrast to the way that Caucasians are shown. The video compares the two races as the Hispanic duo sit on their bikes giving a stern look to the Caucasian in his car. They are percieved as anti-social all the while seeming less wealthy than the Caucasian.
